Cerebral Blood Flow in a Patient with Hemiballism
نویسندگان
چکیده
An 88-year-old woman presented with hemiballism of abrupt onset that mainly affected her left leg. Brain computed tomography revealed a hemorrhage at the right subthalamic nucleus (Picture 1). An easy Z-score imaging system analysis of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) using Tc-ethyl cysteinate dimer revealed hyperperfusion at the right motor cortex corresponding to the leg and the right thalamus (Picture 2). Cerebellar hyperperfusion was observed in 48/50 patients who received this test in our hospital, which suggests the existence of a technical problem. No change of blood flow (CBF) was detected in the subthalamic nucleus. Somatotopic organization was observed in the subthalamic nucleus (1). However, this nucleus was too small to observe CBF changes within the nucleus. An increased glucose uptake in the contralateral motor cortex was reported in a case of hyperglycemic hemiballism (2). SPECT is also useful for revealing the mechanism of hemiballism.

A patient-specific study of blood flow in a cerebral aneurysm using medical images
Background: Cerebral aneurysm disease causes intracranial hemorrhage by rupturing, which can eventually, lead to organ failure or death. For this reason, it is important to anticipate the reasons for rupturing of a cerebral aneurysm from biomechanical point of view. Investigating this disease may even help the physicians to find treatments and predict the patient’s situation. This research was ...
متن کاملRole of Nitric Oxide and ATP-Sensitive K+ Channels in Regulation of Basal Blood Flow and Hypercapnic Vasodilatation of Cerebral Blood Vessels in Rabbit
Background: The mechanisms underlying cerebral hypercapnic vasodilatation are not fully understood. Objective: To investigate the role of nitric oxide (NO) and ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in basal blood flow regulation and hypercapnia-induced vasodilatation in rabbit cerebral blood vessels. Methods: The change in cerebral blood flow was measured by a laser Doppler flowmeter in 18 Ne...

The mechanisms underlying cerebral vasodilatation during hypercapnia are not fully understood. To examine the role of nerves and prostaglandins in the regulation of basal blood flow and in hypercapnia-induced vasodilatation in the cerebral blood vessels of rabbit.Cerebral blood flow was measured by laser Doppler flow-meter in 18 NZW rabbits anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital. Tetrodetoxin ...

Background & Aim: Diabetes mellitus is one the most prevalent chronic diseases in Iran which has a considerable burden on health system. In addition, hyperglycemia is a well-established independent risk factor for ischemic stroke and the development of microvascular and macrovascular diseases in patients with diabetes. On the other hand, middle cerebral artery is one the most important cere...
متن کاملIpsilateral Hemichorea-hemiballism in a Case of Postoperative Stroke
BACKGROUND Ipsilateral hemiballismus refers to the rare occurrence of hemiballism developing on the same side of a brain lesion. CASE REPORT We describe a rare case of postoperative ipsilateral hemiballism in a patient who underwent pituitary adenoma resection and experienced a right internal cerebral artery territory infarct. We review the literature on hemichorea hemiballismus (HCHB) and ex...
